You and your organization are facing the transition to lead-free soldering. You need to understand how this will impact your job, your equipment, and your systems and procedures. At the same time, you recognize the dangers inherent in a silo approach. Rather, you need a cross-functional view of the impact across the organization. Lead-Free Soldering: Orientation, the first course
to result from the new Cookson-ALC-BEST partnership, addresses the global
issues that cut
across materials, processes, and markets. This course is designed to
"point the way" for an orderly transition that has everyone
on-board and the entire team oriented to solving the myriad of issues
in a timely
manner. Order Lead-Free Soldering in web or LAN version Single user Web: $99.00 USD As with all LearnTech training, ask about our "mix and
match" policies.
Lead-Free Soldering: Rework covers the basics of the rework process and the numerous process, materials, and equipment-setup changes required to handle lead-free assemblies. This second course in the Lead-Free Suite - under development by ALC in partnership with Cookson Electronics Assembly Materials and Business Electronics Soldering Technologies (BEST) - is scheduled for release before the end of the quarter. Mix and match with Lead-Free Orientation for extra discounts. Place
your order now. On-site maintenance and repairs afford your company another opportunity to demonstrate your best customer service. You want equipment to continue working as planned, not to fail due to careless attention to ESD during installation or maintenance. This course prepares you for whatever surprises the field service environment presents. From planning through execution, you will learn how to minimize ESD hazards at every stage and to improve customer satisfaction along the way. Planned release in Q2, 2005 as part of the LearnTech® EMS Suite. Visit us at the Cookson Booth (#2443)
Rather than just offering your usual line up of best sellers, ALC has chosen books and tools that support best practices but might not be well known to everybody. We contend they should be! Choose useful tools from Superfactory, in-depth books on LEAN and ESD, and general interest books that underline everyday choices both at work and in our personal lives. Here is a short introduction to one important book that you might not as yet know. In Somebodies and Nobodies, Fuller demonstrates the importance of earned rank in a functioning organization or society at the same time as he derides its abuse in the form of "rankism". Human dignity afforded to all is the currency he espouses. It seems to me that Fuller’s theories are played out in truly Lean organizations with substantial monetary returns to companies who eliminate the rank of "nobody". The following quotes illustrate Fuller’s comments related to the workplace. "Like racism, rank abuse has an institutional face as well as an interpersonal one. When the power inherent in a position of authority is used to fortify that position, the institution’s purpose is subverted. Behaviors…are skewed to preserve the rank, power, salaries, and security of rank-holders." "The goal of most employees is to get through the day, keep their own counsel, give no offense, and hold on to their jobs. When a boss’s primary loyalty is to himself, his employee’s loyalties are to themselves." "People aquiesce to rankism because they fear the consequences of resisting: demerit, demotion, ridicule and ostracism." "Once the rank and file begin withholding their hearts and minds –as they do from any organization beset with rankism-the enterprise begins to decline. "As rankism is identified and reduced, people’s energy becomes catalyzed and engaged. Employees who feel recognized as individuals and who feel they have a fair chance at promotion give their companies their best. Organizations that figure out how to give their workers a voice in management and a stake in its profitability reap great benefits." "In a post rankest environment, personnel will be seen less as workers holding down a job and more as learners progressing to different levels."
