1. It’s Time to Get the Lead Out:

Europe, China, and North America are all headed toward a lead-free solder standard – and the clock is ticking. To help you understand the issues and to make the transition, ALC has partnered with a world leader in the development, manufacturing, sales and support of innovative materials used in the electronic assembly process, and with an IPC master trainer and a leader in innovative solder-training solutions. Watch for a press release on this partnership in the near future. We will be producing the definitive training resource for Lead-free Soldering. The initial course of this multi-course “Suite” is an orientation to Lead-free – and can be in your hands before year end.

Whether you are in consumer electronics, telecommunications, or aerospace, Lead-free will impact your current and future business. You will want this program as soon as it is released. And we would like to hear from you regarding your ongoing needs for Lead-free training. To put your name on a list to receive advanced information ahead of official release, contact leadfree@automatedlearning.com.

This select group will be provided with information ahead of and outside normal bulletins and emails. From this group, we will choose a few companies to receive complimentary registrations in the course on Beta release. If you would like to be considered for the test drive, please indicate so in your email.

2. Lean Conference Canada 2004 Sept 15 and 16

Lean Conference Canada 2004 is the second largest lean conference in Canada this century with nineteen breakout sessions, four workshops and three exceptional keynote speakers.

These power-packed two days are structured around keynote presentations for a global perspective; highly interactive workshops; focused learning sessions; and of course ample time to network with peers and lean specialists.

During the conference, visit ALC at the e-learning centre.

3. LearnTech® Courseware: MSDS

Our latest release, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), is now available in both LAN and WEB versions. This comprehensive interactive multimedia program is intended for all employees who need to be able to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) - based on the ISO standard 16 heading format - as a part of their WHMIS, HAZMAT or HAZCOM training and certification.

4. Administrative tips: passwords

Password mistakes cost in both frustration and resources.

  • If you are creating passwords for others to use, try to avoid ambiguity as much as possible.
  • Avoid characters that are easily misread. Some of the common examples are:
    1 I i ! 0 O 5 S V U v u
  • A good password should be 6-8 characters long.
  • For passwords that don't require strength use a combination of numbers and lower case letters.
  • Add upper case letters for stronger passwords
  • Add punctuation marks for full strength passwords.
  • When sending out multiple passwords, randomly generate unique passwords for each user.
