Lean Black Belt Certification
It is generally accepted that one of the key issues to be addressed in maintaining and sustaining international competitiveness is to implement excellent Quality systems and best practice methodologies. Through the committed involvement of all its employees on a continuous improvement journey, organizations must focus on improving their ability to service markets in the face of increasing customer demands. To meet these demands companies must equip their people with the necessary training, which in turn will enable them to develop and manage a continuous improvement journey into the future. These efforts through the nineties were embodied under the banner of Total Quality Management (TQM) with its two streams - Quality Management and Quality Science. With new developments and approaches these streams have now been augmented with Lean Thinking and Lean Tools. The Diploma in Quality Management – Lean Systems – The Lean Black Belt Program - embraces these latest developments and is supported by a new wave of literature and texts.
Aims and Objectives
The Black Belt Diploma will provide education to a level of best international practice in Quality Management, to enable participating companies to gain competitive advantage through the application of basic and advanced lean principles and to drive improvement, and to be able to demonstrate measurable results.

The program brings together lecture material on best practice lean tools and techniques, recognized methodologies and skills, and project management, leadership and change management processes to enable participating companies to make fully informed decisions relating to all aspects of quality management.
Learning objectives include
- Understand the principles of Lean Thinking and how these principles can be implemented in organizations
- Understand the application of Lean Tools and Advanced Lean Tools
- Appreciate how Lean Tools and Techniques can lower the cost of production and service activities by changing the processes used to manufacture the product by transforming time spent on ‘non value adding’ activities into ‘value adding’ activities.
- Understand best practice in project management tools and techniques and how they can be applied to any lean project.
- Understand the implications of leadership and change management and how they impact on any Quality Management/Lean program.
A company-based project will form a key element of the program, insuring the integration of the various concepts in the participant’s workplace.
