Module Outline:

Module 1 - Understanding the Supply Chain

Topic 1: Supply Chain Overview
In simple terms, supply chain management is the integration and co-ordination of organizational activities, buy, make, move sell and return. Successful supply chain management ensures that an organization is efficient, effective and retains competitive advantage.
Topic 2: Supply Chain Elements – Buy & Make
After completing this topic, you will be able to identify the activities involved in the ‘buy' and ‘make' elements of the supply chain incorporating strategic and operational procurement, elimination of inventory buffers, lean manufacturing and design for manufacture.
Topic 3: Supply Chain Elements – Move & Sell
After completing this topic, you will be able to identify the activities involved in the ‘move' and ‘sell' elements of the supply chain incorporating warehousing & distribution operations, contract manufacturing, and fulfillment of customer demand.
Topic 4: Supply Chain Costs
This topic covers the cost involved in Supply Chain Management and includes examples of calculating supply chain costs.

Module 2- Organisation & Structures for Effective SCM:

Topic 1: Internal Supply Chain Structures
Management of the supply chain is made easier if information and materials flow in a co-ordinated and ‘real time' manner and where there is collaboration between all activities and information along the entire supply chain.
Topic 2: Information in the Supply Chain
The success of contemporary, highly sophisticated supply chains has been made possible by extracting, analyzing and managing information delivered through modern information system technology allowing for collaboration between all information points.
Topic 3: External Supply Chain Structures
There has been a growth of business networks made up of supplier partnerships and strategic alliances as a result of the move to reduce total lead times, reduce inventories ad achieve time-advantage over competitors.

Module 3 – Supply Chain Collaboration & Alignment:

Topic 1: World Class Supply Chain Alignment
In response to global market conditions, many organizations have had to define new strategies, process models, and performance measurements. Restructuring efforts have focused on functional and process excellence.
Topic 2: Technology and the Supply Chain
The past 20 years has seen the development of solutions that enable cross-organizational information flow, linking customer and vendor systems, and simplifying the management of outsourced supply chain components.
Topic 3: Best Practice Techniques
In order to achieve a faster, cheaper, and better response to customer requirements, market leaders are co-ordinating their activities and integrating partnerships, processes, tools, and information across the supply chain.
Topic 4: SCM implementation Considerations
An organization should carefully consider the implications for its internal and external supply chains when contemplating new initiatives such as strategic procurement, international trading, outsourcing and introduction of IT systems.

Module 4 – Supply Chain Measurement & Control:

Topic 1: Benefits of Supply Chain Management
Organizations that are aggressive about supply chain management and introduce best practices in their supply chains will reduce inventories and lead-times as well as improving operational performance, customer service and agility.
Topic 2: Performance Measurements
SCM uses financial and non-financial measures, which should be linked to the company's vision, mission statement, and strategic plan, to assess strategic and operational achievement.
